Escoles velles

Escoles velles

The 20th century has been, among many other things, the century of education. Let us remember that at the beginning of the last century, education was compulsory, but many children didn’t attend regularly in order to help the family. In fact, it’s estimated that at that time almost half of the population was illiterate. For this reason, during the Second Republic, there was an important push for the education of boys and girls. One of the remains of this memorable educational project is found in the Escoles Velles, a building by the prestigious architect Guillem Forteza, inscribed in regionalism. Today it’s the headquarters of Imedea. Let us always remember that education equals freedom and being the best foundation for the future.
