Embroiderers

Embroiderers

Although the activity was not strictly industrial, Esporles was a town of embroiderers. Dr. Joana M. Escartín reminds us that in 1910 there were 27. But thirteen years later they had increased to 75. Most of them were employed in workshops, but there were also some in private homes. Despite the decline in embroiderers, just after the Civil War, by the 1950s there were already over a hundred. One of the most important workshops was that of Antoni Covas Gomes, with fifteen embroiderers. There were also others, such as those of the Manzano, Trias, etc. families. An activity that is still valid today!
